About Us

Countryside has been serving McHenry County from our Terra Cotta Ave. location since 1960. We are frequently recognized among the top garden centers and nurseries by organizations including: Best of the Fox, Teleflora Top 100 Florist in the US, FTD Top 500 Florist in the US, and Today’s Garden Center’s Revolutionary Top 100 Garden Centers.

Our staff of 90 are among the most knowledgeable in the business. Many have over 10 years of experience and have distinctions including Illinois Certified Nursery Professionals, Illinois Certified Professional Florists, and more. Click here to meet our team.

History

Countryside was created in 1959, when Bill and Katherine Hameder made a business of sharing their knowledge of, love and compassion for flowers, shrubs and trees with many local patrons. In 1973, Richard Harms and James Riedl purchased Countryside and have expanded the nursery to 28 acres. The present owners, JP and Brent Troost, purchased Countryside in fall of 2020. As two of the top growers in the nation, they are excited to continue the legacy of growing and providing quality plants and services to the community.

In order to satisfy customers’ needs, Countryside purchased Garden Valley Greenhouses in 1985 in nearby Woodstock, IL. Garden Valley supplies Countryside with quality, home grown annuals, fall mums and poinsettias. JP and Brent are continually updating and expanding our growing facility to provide even more Countryside Home Grown plants!

We are excited to announce the Grand Opening of our new location, Countryside Flower Shop, Nursery and Garden Center – Elburn, Thursday, September 1, 2022! JP and Brent are cultivating our future with the addition of a beautiful greenhouse and growing facility in Elburn, Illinois. They began planting 30,000 mums earlier this summer and will be delivering them to local fundraisers throughout the Chicago-land area throughout the month!
